Sunday's Setlist 10/13/19
Hey Church!
Last week was such an encouraging time of singing together. We certainly sing to God when we gather together. But we also sing to and about God together. This is one way that we, filled with the Holy Spirit, address one another (see Eph. 5:18-20)! It’s an encouragement, edification, and building up of each other every time we do this. And I have to say, I was so encouraged by your singing to Jesus. Let’s let this be one of our prayers as we come to worship together: “Lord, by the power of Your Spirit, would You be glorified and may my church family be encouraged and edified as I come to worship You!”
Here’s the songs we’re singing Sunday!
Center My Life - If there’s none more wonderful, none more worthy, none more beautiful, none more powerful than the risen king, Jesus, then what else could possibly be better than building all of our lives around Him? Let me encourage you: don’t wait until Sunday gets here to ask this of Jesus. Ask Him now!
His Mercy is More - Wow. What an incredible time we had singing this last weekend. Our sins are many! His mercy is more! Would you, today, recognize the incredible mercy our God shows us in choosing to forgive us and remember our sins no more!
O Praise the Name - This is the last song we’ll sing before we hear God’s Word preached to us. As we ‘cast our mind to Calvary’, may we be reminded of the glorious and beautiful good news that Jesus died for sinners. May we be found in an eager and praise-giving posture as we open His Word together!
How Marvelous - This is an old hymn. One of the verses goes like this: "He took my sins and my sorrows, He made them His very own. He bore the burden to Calvary, and suffered and died alone." We will come to the communion table as we sing this hymn together. As we remember Christ’s remarkable display of love at the Cross as we take in the bread and the cup, may we be stirred to respond with the hymn’s refrain, “How marvelous! How wonderful is my Savior’s love for me!”
My Worth Is Not In What I Own - Confession: I feel like I need to sing this song every day. You can find the lyrics to this modern hymn here. I am so often tempted to seek my worth in other things. Prestige, other people’s praise, the desire to be known and respected…these war for my attention, affection, and devotion. Every time I sing the last verse, I’m reminded of an incredible truth:
Two wonders here that I confess
My worth and my unworthiness
My value fixed - my ransom paid
At the cross
Friends, would you join me this Sunday as we declare that we rejoice in our Redeemer? Would you join me as we sing that He is our greatest treasure? I need to hear this truth, and I trust you might need to as well.
