Sunday's Setlist 11/3/19
Church!
So excited to have my friend, Cormac Parker Jr. come and guest lead this weekend. Cormac has led for Garden City once before and brings a passionate and gifted presence with him. Garden City, make him feel welcome and let’s sing loudly together this week!
Your Love Awakens Me - Only Jesus makes this possible. Jesus, upon hearing about the death of his friend Lazarus said, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.” (John 11:11). In one sense, our spiritual deadness was no problem to solve. Our savior merely needed to say, “wake up!”. In another sense, our spiritual awakening was impossible for anyone to accomplish…but Jesus. Only Jesus—because of God’s great love toward us—can make it possible to awaken us, and only Jesus is qualified to awaken us. He called us into this Life so that we can declare that Life is in Christ. So let’s sing that together!
Lion and the Lamb - This tune has a number of Scripture references in it. I want to call our attention to what’s found in, what many believe to be a song, from Paul’s letter to the Philippians (Philippians 2:6-11). Every knee will bow. Every tongue will confess: Jesus Christ is Lord! Only Jesus, who serves as our sacrificial lamb and our conquering Lion of Judah, is worthy to have every knee and tongue respond to Him in honor.
Great Are You Lord - This song alludes to Paul’s gospel proclamation to those who had never heard of the one true God: “…nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.” (Acts 17:25). If it is God who has given you this breath—the very breath you took as you read this sentence—we ought to wonder: what shall we do with it? If we choose to honor God with it, by singing, by acknowledging Him, by loving our neighbor…is it not a humbling thought to consider that we could not give that breath in service to Him had He not granted it to us in the first place? I’m so excited to—in agreement—give the breath He’s given us this weekend to sing praises to Him!
Cornerstone - Briefly: A cornerstone is the first part of a foundation. May Christ alone be the foundation we build our lives upon!
Amazed - Cormac released this song over a year ago. When he first let me hear it, I knew it was something that we needed to sing together. We were walking through Paul’s letter to the Ephesians and were encouraged in that letter to consider the measure to which God loves us. I’m excited for him to lead this song that we’ve learned together. Now that we know it, let’s sing about God’s love displayed in Christ toward us!
Excited to be with you Sunday. Bring someone with you and together we will sing loudly of the goodness of Christ!
