Sunday's Setlist 12/8/19
Hey Church!
Friends, I loved singing Christmas Carols with you last weekend. And I look forward to these next few weeks as we sing Christmas Carols together! They’re so important to sing! Can I encourage you to do something? Read these lyrics from one of my heroes, Charles Wesley:
Hark! the herald angels sing: Glory to the newborn King
Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled
Joyful, all ye nations, rise. Join the triumph of the skies
With angelic host proclaim: Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark! the herald angels sing: Glory to the newborn KingChrist, by highest heaven adored. Christ, the everlasting Lord
Late in time behold him come; Offspring of a virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see. Hail, the incarnate Deity
Pleased, as man, with men to dwell; Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! the herald angels sing: Glory to the newborn KingHail! the heaven-born prince of peace. Hail! the Son of Righteousness
Light and life to all he brings; Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by, Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth
Hark! the herald angels sing: Glory to the newborn KingCome, Desire of nations, come. Fix in us Thy humble home
Rise, the woman's conquering seed. Bruise in us the serpent's head
Adam's likeness now efface. Shine Thine image in its place
Second Adam from above, Reinstate us in Thy love
Hark! the herald angels sing: Glory to the newborn king
Wow. What a rich, theologically robust song! I love the last verse that alludes to the proto-gospel in Genesis 3: Rise, the woman’s conquering seed. Bruise in us the serpent’s head. I love that. Adam’s likeness now efface. Shine Thine image in its place. What an incredible prayer to pray and song to sing. HARK! (that means, ‘Listen’). This is incredible gospel news! God has come in Christ and He’s come to redeem the curse! I’m so excited to sing these Christmas songs with you! Enjoy listening to the setlist below!
Merry Christmas!
