Get to Know a Garden City Member: The Belisles

Hello, we are the Belisles! We have lived in San Jose for the past five years. Before moving here, we were living in our college town, Chico, CA. Sara grew up in a small valley town called Red Bluff that’s known for their record-breaking heat and rodeos in the summer. Colin is from a quaint coastal town, Mendocino, that’s mostly nice hotels and pot farms.

We’ve been attending Garden City for five years now. The past year we’ve been in the Buzzard’s life group. The group mostly consists of youth leaders that serve with the junior high and high schoolers at Garden City. We typically meet in the Buzzard’s front yard and since the pandemic, we have split up into guys and girls to focus more on discipleship. We are thankful to have this group of brothers and sisters to walk through this difficult year alongside. This group has been a welcome constant amidst a year of unpredictability.

On a typical weekend, you might find us getting coffee and empanadas at The Big E (a local favorite) and then heading to either The Studio or more recently Castle Rock to get some climbing in. Following this, we’ll likely get carne asada burritos at the taco truck on Union & Curtner. Other weekends, we need a break so Colin will go mountain biking and Sara will catch up on The Great British Baking Show and attempt to make baked goods that Marry Berry would approve of.

During Covid, we have been continually reminded of God’s sovereignty in our lives and the world. This year has been difficult partly because our illusion of control has been shattered. Thank God that He has stripped us of that because we have been humbled and been able to recognize our reliance on God for everything. We are still unsure what the future holds but are thankful for God’s daily grace and for the community that we have found at Garden City.
