Get to Know a Garden City Member: The Lombardos

Hello from the Lombardo Family!

We love being native Bay-Areans! Dave was born and raised in Concord where he fondly remembers riding his bike all over town and exploring the foothills of Mt. Diablo. Grace grew up primarily in Los Gatos where she’ll never forget the many trails and towering oak trees. Our kids (Dave’s step-kids), born in San Jose, remember all the fun things they’ve experienced in downtown San Jose and Cupertino. Abbey (22) especially loved being part of the San Jose Tech Museum’s popular “Tech Challenge” for 4 years while in high school, Cory (19) will never forget his debut performance with his band on the outdoor stage at Santana Row, and Sarah (16) loved and still loves frequenting the Valley Fair Shopping Mall which is within walking distance from our house.

Before Shelter-In-Place (SIP) came along, one of the anticipated weekly events our life group looooved to enjoy together was to share theme-based potluck meals. Anywhere from Asian to Mediterranean, comfort food to new age grain bowls and vegan specialties, you name it we’ve probably tried it! We look forward to doing that again someday, but in the meantime, we enjoy seeing one another on zoom, supporting each other through prayer and discipleship sub-groups, and finding creative ways to serve. Some of our members have consistently served at Second Harvest Food Bank and PATH – a program helping to end homelessness for individuals and families.

When SIP is all over and things are back to (the new) normal, we all look forward to traveling and visiting our favorite little getaways in slower-paced areas in and out of California. One of our favorite destinations is Point Reyes Station. We love anything along the gorgeous California coast, especially lookout points, and hiking trails. We enjoy discovering farm-to-table restaurants, specialty pastry shops, and a good pour-over coffee. But it’s hard to beat our local faves: Chromatic and Voyager.

As we SIP, we are thankful for God’s provision of time – that is, lots of unscheduled time. We are all getting through this by keeping busy. Dave loves the extra uninterrupted time to work in the yard and design and build things in and around the home. Abbey is very focused on her school work. Grace, Cory, and Sarah love exercising whether it’s in a zoom class, doing lots of pushups, or working out alone. And we are all enjoying various shows, movies, and online games.
