Get to Know a Garden City Member: The Leshans

Hey Garden City!  A collective greeting from the Leshan family - Michael, Sonja, Ethan, and Alecia.  You’ll notice our picture has five people in it:  we also have a daughter named Avery who is a senior at the University of Texas in Austin.  We love exploring the bay area with her whenever she comes to visit!

We recently relocated from Dallas, Texas where everything really is bigger; houses, trucks, churches, gas stations (Buc-ee’s!), steaks (72-ouncers in Amarillo!), burritos (the Super Monster at Freebirds, anyone?), donuts (14 inches at Round Rock!), football stadiums (Cowboys) and hail storms (anyone looking to get into the roofing business??).  While we miss our friends back in Texas, we’ve felt incredibly welcomed by our brothers and sisters at Garden City.  Joining a Life Group has been a great way to get plugged in to the community.  We belong to the Valley Fair Life Group led by Fred and Judy Mok.  In addition to our weekly times together, we also camped at Henry Cowell state park where we were introduced to Marianne’s ice cream, night hiking, and shovel football on the beach.

Picking up and moving to San Jose has driven us to further realize how much we are not in control.  Having left our known, predictable surroundings there for new adventures here, we try not to be anxious but to put our trust in God (Philippians 4:6-7).  This has been a big struggle at times, but we’ve seen so many answered prayers and it’s encouraging to see God’s hand in all of it as He lovingly provides for our family.  We continue to reach out to God for many things:  job stability, salvation of unsaved friends, college guidance and direction.

We’ve been so encouraged by God’s reminder that He will take care of us (Hebrews 13:5, Matthew 7:11).  He’s answered many of our prayers - often through you at Garden City.  We look forward to meeting more of you!
