The Cheney's!

Hi, we’re the Cheney’s!

We are Bay Area natives born and raised and are finding out how rare our type have become around these parts (either we are too attached to our (408) phone numbers or this is where the Lord has called us to be on mission for a long haul!).

We love this area and the neighborhood we live in. Nestled up against the Santa Teresa foothills, it’s fun to be in the city yet still hear coyotes at night and cows mooing during the day. When we have something special to celebrate we head over the hill to our favorite fancy restaurant- Shadowbrook, in Capitola.

We’ve been married since 2006 and have two children, Paxton and Nevaeh. Steven has been serving in law enforcement for the past 16 years and Erin is enjoying a new season of getting to be home to invest in the kids. When Steven isn’t on duty, you’ll find him out in his natural habitat: the garage covered in sawdust and epoxy. He discovered a love for woodworking a few years ago and has enjoyed getting to serve others through this growing skillset.

Something we enjoy doing as a family is towing the trailer Steven built out for a camping trip (Tahoe, Yosemite and Hume Lake are our favorite not-too-far-away places to go). When the kids are in school, Erin loves to fill her days with singing & playing guitar, going on hikes with Jesus, and times of one-on-one connection with other women to encourage them through the Word and prayer. And after some years of trying to figure out what “our thing” was as a couple, the Lord led us to discover a mutual love for videography.

The Lord led us to Garden City in April of 2021 through the invitation of friends and we recognize that as a clear act of God’s provision and kindness for our family. We were quickly enveloped in the love and grace of this church community. We were blown away that people not only remembered our names each week, but that we were invited to join them in aspects of their weekly lives.

We joined the Garcia’s Life Group (408!) and have gotten to experience being known and cared for in such a healing and redeeming way. If you’re on the fence about joining a Life Group- do it! Through getting to do life with each other, the Holy Spirit has given us such a deep love for this church. We are excited to serve Him here and are looking forward to growing more into the likeness of Jesus with you all.
