The Chi's!

Hi friends!

We are the Chi’s (Marvine and Nicole) and we are Bay Area natives. We absolutely love the Bay and cannot imagine living anywhere else. Mainly because of the people and the weather, but we also are big foodies! Check out La Vics. Their orange sauce is *chef kiss* and is a staple in San Jose. Our recent favorite spot is Raw ASF in Milpitas (recent Vegan converts!).

Our story is a bit funny. I (Nicole) was always the loud/outgoing gal while Marvine was the very shy-put on his headphones-and listen to every emo song on his iPod-type of boy. So, while he knew who I was through our different youth groups at 13 years old, we actually never formally met and conversed until I was 19 and he was 22. We formed a friendship and went on a mission trip together along with my church for 3 weeks to the Philippines.

Long story short, while we were serving on the mission trip, we also began to develop romantic feelings for one another. Our mission trip was almost 10 years ago and we’ve been together ever since (married for almost 4 years)!

We absolutely LOVE Garden City. We are constantly encouraged and leave church loving God and his Body more and more. We began to join and watch services through Zoom (yes, we actually joined a church during the pandemic!) and we knew instantly we wanted to serve and be part of this church and its mission. Recently, our Life Group (Salinas) has been sharing a meal every Sunday after church and then meeting on Mondays to discuss and reflect on the recent sermon.

Despite the last two years, we’ve learned on an even deeper level, how important it is for the Body to gather and worship God.
