The Millers!
Hello Garden City Church. We are the Millers – Matt, Estefania, and Liam, and this is a little bit about us:
_ _ _
Estefania wins the prize for the most interesting childhood, being number 7 of 10 kids, a twin, and was born 2 months early and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. Economically poor but rich in family, Estefania grew up with the smell of tamales and fresh flour tortillas every day. She came to know the Lord through a blend of Catholicism and Seventh Day Adventist but eventually migrated to a more non-denominational style upon arriving in the US.
Estefania was in the middle of University when her family got the long-awaited letter announcing they were approved to come to the US. Arriving in Texas at the age of 19 with little money, little English, and an unknown future in front of her, she quickly got work at odd jobs and began taking English-as-second-language classes.
With her older sister, Estefania made her way to California where she has resided for the past 20 years. Working this entire time, Estefania met her future husband Matt at the roofing company where she worked.
Matt was born in Grassvalley, CA, which is a beautiful mountain community in the Sierra foothills northeast of Sacramento. He lived adventurously with his mom, dad, and sister. Some of his most vivid memories include fly fishing with his dad, playing in his sandbox and riding his bike and big wheel anywhere and everywhere.
Unfortunately, at age 5 his parents divorced and he and his dad moved to San Jose while his mom and sister moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. While tragic and sad, God was ever-present in his heart. Accepting Jesus at a young age and taking to reading scripture and enjoying middle school and high school church groups, faith in Christ has been strong in his heart.
After graduating with a Business Degree from Westmont College, Matt made his way back to San Jose and worked at his family’s roofing company. This is where Matt and Estefania met but didn’t actually date until 7 years later. It was a total God thing that brought them together and they were married in October 2009. Two years later came Liam!
As a family, we love going to the beach: building sandcastles, exploring tide pools, and swimming/boogie boarding/surfing. Matt loves fly fishing, snow skiing, surfing, and also gardens and likes to cook. Estefania loves a good beach day, magazines, and hanging with girlfriends at Liz’s Tea Treasures. Liam loves bike riding, skiing, and playing the piano and also likes drawing.
As a family, we will serve the Lord. Jesus is our savior and God is our foundation. We love being part of Cindy and Joe’s (408) small group and are excited to be part of Garden City Church!
